Our verdict

The rotary module adds a fourth axis to Snapmaker machines, so you can laser-engrave around tumblers and carve 3D objects with the CNC head. Its 100:1 harmonic drive gives smooth, precise rotation, and buyers on retail pages rate it highly. Independent tests are scarce and owners say rotary carving takes practice. At $269 (down from $599), it is good value if you want to sell personalised cups or try 4-axis carving.

What we like

  • 100:1 harmonic drive for smooth, precise rotation
  • 360° continuous rotation, up to 45°/s
  • Works with laser and CNC modules
  • Fits Snapmaker 2.0 A250/A350, Artisan and Ray
  • $269, down from $599

What could be better

  • Few independent hands-on reviews (preview)
  • Rotary carving has a learning curve
  • Version naming is confusing (support says only one version is sold)
  • Takes space on the bed; check maximum workpiece size
  • Needs Luban, Fusion 360 or Aspire for 4-axis toolpaths

What is it?

The rotary module is a fourth axis for Snapmaker machines. It clamps a round workpiece and rotates it under the laser or CNC head, so you can engrave all the way around a tumbler or carve a figure in 3D. The current version uses a harmonic drive with a 100:1 reduction.

It costs $269 on Snapmaker’s US store for the A350, Artisan and Ray versions, or $239 for the A250, down from $599.

A note on evidence

We found no independent long-form test of this module. This preview draws on Snapmaker’s published specs, retailer ratings and owner comments on the Snapmaker forum.

What owners report

  • Retailer pages show high ratings from small numbers of buyers; one says it takes a little getting used to but results are really good.
  • Retail listings warn that rotary carving has a learning curve and isn’t as friendly to newcomers as flat work.
  • On the Snapmaker forum, an Artisan owner asked whether an A350-labelled unit was the newer harmonic-drive model. Snapmaker support said it sells only one rotary module and simply renamed it to highlight the harmonic drive.

Specs that matter

The 100:1 reduction gives smooth, precise rotation (a manufacturer claim). It turns 360° continuously at up to 45° per second. Software support covers Snapmaker Luban, Fusion 360 and Vectric Aspire.

Who should not buy it

  • Anyone who only works flat.
  • Beginners who haven’t mastered 3-axis CNC yet.

vs rivals

  • vs roller rotaries for diode lasers (Sculpfun, Creality Falcon): cheaper for engraving tumblers, but can’t CNC-carve.

Final thoughts

The rotary module opens up personalised drinkware and 4-axis carving on Snapmaker machines at a much lower price than before. Expect to spend time learning 4-axis toolpaths.
