Our verdict
The dual extrusion module lets a Snapmaker 2.0 print two colours or soluble supports, with hotter 300°C nozzles and more than double the stock head’s flow. Notebookcheck called it one of the more mature multi-material options. Long-term owners on Snapmaker’s forum are less kind: auto-calibration failed for one, another saw stringing with PVA, and both say a dedicated multicolour printer prints better. At $259 it is worth it only if you’re committed to your 2.0.
What we like
- 300°C hotends (stock module: 275°C)
- 20 mm³/s flow (stock: 9 mm³/s)
- Lifting nozzles avoid collisions and oozing on the idle side
- Supports PVA and TPU; quick-swap hotends
- $259, down from $599
What could be better
- Owners report auto-calibration failures and painful manual levelling
- Stringing and uneven quality with PVA supports (owner report)
- Large head eats Z height on the 2.0
- Dedicated multicolour printers (e.g. Snapmaker U1) print better
- No independent lab review found (preview)

What is it?
The dual extrusion module replaces the Snapmaker 2.0’s single-nozzle print head with a two-nozzle head. Each nozzle has its own geared extruder, and the idle nozzle lifts out of the way to avoid dragging across the print.
It costs $259 on Snapmaker’s US store on 1 November 2026 (list $599).
A note on evidence
We found no independent lab review. This preview draws on Snapmaker’s specs, Notebookcheck’s coverage and long-term owner reports on Snapmaker’s forum.
What it promises
Snapmaker lists 300°C hotends (versus 275°C on the stock head), 20 mm³/s flow (versus 9) and four cooling fans. It supports PVA soluble supports and TPU. Notebookcheck called it one of the more mature multi-material options, highlighting the dual-gear drive and filament sensors.
What owners report
A July–August 2026 forum thread is sobering:
- An owner of two years called it “a bit hit and miss”: auto calibration never worked, manual levelling of both sides was painful, and print quality never matched dedicated printers. The big head also eats Z height.
- Another owner saw a lot of stringing and uneven quality with PVA and support PLA.
- A third noted Cura handles it as a normal multi-extruder printer, and that it uses standard MK8 nozzles, so replacing nozzles is cheap.
Snapmaker’s own support article notes dependent dual extruders carry collision and oozing risks, which the lifting design reduces.
Who should not buy it
- Anyone open to a new printer: the Snapmaker U1 or a Bambu-style multicolour printer is far better at multicolour.
- Anyone who rarely needs two materials.
vs rivals
- vs Artisan dual extrusion module ($399): a different, Artisan-only head. See 2.0 vs Artisan dual extrusion.
- vs Snapmaker U1 ($749): a dedicated four-toolhead printer.
Final thoughts
At $259 the dual module is now cheap enough to try on a 2.0 you already love. Go in expecting to tinker with calibration.
